Using 3D printing to turn old iPhone into fashion table lamp

According to a statistical report last year, the replacement cycle of domestic smartphones has been shortened from 29 months four years ago to 18 months. This means that tens of millions of well-functioning smartphones are thrown aside by their users every year and are no longer used. There is no doubt that this is a considerable waste. So is there any way to make these abandoned smartphones work again?

Recently, Ukrainian designer Ivan Zurba designed a very clever 3D printing device, making full use of the flashlight function on the smartphone, turning your abandoned iPhone into a simple and elegant table lamp.

“This is an elegant, simple arm that holds your iPhone.” Zhurba explained, “Just turn on the flashlight function, it becomes a stylish desk lamp that illuminates the corner of your desk. You can charge the cable. Always plug it into your iPhone and let it shine all the time. In addition, you can even bring up Spotify or iTunes software and connect it via WiFi to turn it into a "table lamp" that can play music and listen to the radio."

Imitating Apple's simple design philosophy, the iPhone lamp designed by Zhurba is also very simple. It includes a 3D printing case that can hold a smartphone and integrates a charging cable. Zhurba also designed the shape and structure of the case so that it could produce a magnifying effect on the sound from the iPhone speakers. Zhurba has designed several different versions for this table lamp, specifically for iPhone models: iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 6 and so on.

Zhurba's design of these iPhone desk lamps was disclosed as early as the end of last year. At that time, he collaborated with 3D printing startup Kwambi to release these designs on the Kwambio platform. Users can not only download these designs, but also pass Kwambio. The platform customizes it.

“We plan to release the Kwambio platform (including the web and iOS mobile apps) in July 2015, when you will find more than 500 customizable and 3D printing products. These products are divided into 4 categories: fashion, home decoration, gadgets. And art," Kate Kolambet of Kwambio said in an e-mail. “If you don’t have a 3D printer in your home, we can also provide an on-demand 3D printing service.”
