Five excellent designs for the Airbus 3D Printing Drone Challenge

Recently, Airbus Group and 3D printing car company LocalMotors announced the winner of the "AirbusCargoDroneChallenge", which was launched in April to encourage budding drone designers to create a portable 3 - A new drone with a payload of 5 kg. Winners will share more than $100,000 in prize money.

The two companies hope to get some innovative ideas from the minds of smart young people, while also inspiring up-and-coming designers to start this major engineering project. Now, after four months and 425 events, the company has selected five contest winners. The competition is divided into three categories: the Airbus Grand Prize, which is determined by the Airbus Jury; the Transportation Award, which is determined by industry experts; and the Community Award, determined by members of LocalMotors.

Those involved in the Airbus Drone Challenge need to design a new drone that meets the following criteria:

Vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and efficient flight

Hybrid design of multi-rotor and fixed-wing aircraft

Two flight modes: hover and flight

Modular payload system

Weight not exceeding 25kg

Separate fixed cargo hold, payload 3-5 kg

Convenient and replaceable cargo hold, no loss of goods during flight

Cruise speed of at least 80km/h and a maximum of 194km/h

Although a total of nine podiums were set up for the three categories, only five winners were selected because their excellent work spanned multiple categories. Therefore, the final result is as follows:
