In a recent breakthrough, the students and teachers from Ningbo Dahongying Academy have developed an automatic screw machine capable of installing the same type of screws in just one second. This innovative device recently earned first prize at the Zhejiang Provincial Machinery Design Contest, showcasing the remarkable talent and creativity of young engineers.
The compact machine, roughly the size of a shoebox, may not look impressive at first glance, but its functionality is truly impressive. When activated, the internal gears begin to rotate, creating vibrations that automatically arrange a pile of disorganized screws into a neat line. These tiny screws move forward through the grooves of the gears, resembling soldiers marching in formation. Once positioned correctly, a high-pressure cylinder blows the selected screw toward the outlet, where it is automatically tightened in the designated spot. The entire process takes about five to six seconds, with the actual screwing action completed in just one second—far faster than even the most skilled human worker, who would take at least half a minute to complete the same task.
This invention was created by a team of students from the Institute of Electrical Engineering at Ningbo Dahongying Academy, led by He Runqin and Chen Guangqun. The group spent five months working on the project, refining the design and testing its efficiency. Their hard work paid off when they participated in the 11th Zhejiang Mechanical Design Contest, where they competed against 360 teams from 50 universities across the province. Their machine stood out due to its practicality and technical value, earning them the top prize.
Now, the automatic screw machine has caught the attention of several manufacturers. Three companies have already shown interest in their product, and a lighting company has even sent a letter of intent expressing its willingness to collaborate. With such promising prospects, this invention could soon make a significant impact in industrial assembly lines.
