Building a Live Edge Console Table
In this video, I’ll walk you through the process of transforming a piece of reclaimed rainbow poplar into a versatile console table. This unique slab came from my friends at The Atlanta Wood Foundation, an urban timber nonprofit dedicated to repurposing urban trees into usable lumber, keeping them out of landfills.
The legs for this project were sourced from Flowyline Design, adding a touch of elegance to the live edge design. Working with reclaimed wood presents its own set of challenges, but the end result is always worth it. The natural beauty of the poplar slab speaks for itself, and I love incorporating pieces like this into furniture projects.
If you’re interested in creating something similar, check out the full video where I go step-by-step through the build process. From selecting the wood to finishing touches, there are plenty of tips and tricks to help you along the way. Let me know if you have any questions about the tools or techniques used in this project!
Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll need:
- Reclaimed rainbow poplar slab
- Flowyline Design legs
- Wood glue
- Clamps
- Planer
- Sander
- Finishing oils or stains
The possibilities with live edge slabs are endless. Whether you're making a console table, coffee table, or even a dining table, the key is finding the right balance between rustic charm and modern functionality.
