Seven tips for producing perfect prints

There are no “perfect” prints in the world, but the seven tips described below may help people achieve near-perfect prints.

1. If your printed product adopts the design of spreading pages, it means that the image or text on one page will span to the next signature. At this time, it is best to make sure that the paper guide and gripper are in The location in the factory, and then place the material as close to that area as possible.

In addition, try not to split one text into two signatures for printing.

2. Always maintain bleeding at 1/16 inch (requires simple cuts) or 1/8 inch (other jobs). Any image that exceeds the cutting line must leave a certain margin (usually 3 mm) outside the cutting line, so that people are not allowed to correct a small amount of registration when trimming and cutting. This margin is called bleeding. Therefore, when cutting a stack of pages, appropriately increasing the amount of bleeding can improve the cutting quality of the entire job.

3. If the printed file you send needs to be die-cut, it is best to store the die-cut line in a separate layer. In this way, the printing house can turn off this layer in the file before printing. In addition, if the sample you obtained has been printed with die cutting lines, then you must let your printing plant know that these lines do not need to be printed. This may sound simple, but many people do not.

4. First determine whether the paper you choose can achieve the desired printing effect. Some papers may be too thick to be folded multiple times; some papers may not be suitable for UV coating, some papers may take many days to dry completely, while some papers can only be coated with water, otherwise they will be bound Equipment damage.

5. When designing a multi-page document that is intended to be saddle-stitched, it must be considered that the inner pages of the book or the book will move out of the spine during production, because the more paper pages, the higher the thickness of the spine, the easier it is this circumstance occurs. In order to avoid the phenomenon of uneven text and images on the inner pages caused by this situation, it is best to gradually shorten the margin of each page from the outermost page.

6. When you submit a printing order for a printing house, it is best to attach a printed product and written instructions. If the number of pages of the product is not indicated in your record, it must be marked on your sample. Give the written instructions to your colleagues to read, and let them help you find areas that are not easy to understand.

7. When you are still in the idea stage, you should get in touch with the binding factory to let them know what you are thinking. Not only can they help you achieve your goals, but they can also provide you with many cost-saving suggestions.

If you ignore this step, many simple tasks that could be done on high-speed equipment may need to be done manually by people, which will delay production time and increase production costs. In addition, through communication with the binding factory, you can also make more people understand and like your work.
