Mountain Peak Profile

Shishabangama

Shishapangma Peak, 8012 meters above sea level, is the last of four 8000-meter peaks in the world to work and is the only 8000-meter mountain peak completely within China. It is located in the middle part of the Himalayas and is located 10 km north of the main ridge and southeast-northwest of the Qiangangshan Mountains. It is located at 85.7° East longitude and 28.3° North latitude. The southeast is 120 kilometers away from Mount Everest. To the east is Mount Moramen's Qingfeng at an altitude of 7703 meters, and at the northwest is 7292 meters from Peng Qingfeng, both within the territory of Nyalam County in Tibet. “Shishabangama” means “climate” in Tibetan. However, the pious Tibetan people also have many myths and songs to praise it as a good fortune mountain. Xishabangmafeng consists of three sister peaks with similar elevations. At the peaks 200 meters and 400 meters northwest of the main peak, there are two peaks of 8008 meters and 7,966 meters respectively. This is one of the centers of the modern glaciations of the Himalayas. The entire area of the karst mountain valleys with glaciers and permanent snow covers an area of 6,000 square kilometers and is mainly concentrated around the Ma Xia peak. The North Slope is facing the 13.5 km long Bokankala glacier, parallel to it is the Daqu Glacier. The north of the north ridge is the Geya Glacier, and the south slope is a 16-kilometer-long Fuqu Glacier. The end of the ridge is down to a shrubbery of 4,550 meters. The most fascinating is the icing area between 5000-5800 meters above sea level, which is several kilometers long. The scenery is very strange, like a living "ice garden". However, it was covered with criss-cross ice and snow cracks and the huge ice avalanche that occurred at the time, which set difficulties for the climbers.

Xishabangmafeng is located in the northern part of the Himalayas fold belt. The structure of each rock series is roughly in line with the direction of the mountain system. It consists of metamorphic rocks with a thickness of several kilometers, and a glacier at the bottom of the valley shows 250 In recent years, there have been strenuous activities in the glaciers here. In recent years, a large number of ancient vertebrate fossils and a large number of petal, asterite and starfish fossils have also been discovered in this area, proving the changes in the region.
